MIDWINTER REGATTA FEBRUARY 16th & 17th, 2008

The Southern California Yachting Association’s 79th Midwinter Regatta is gearing up for Presidents’ Weekend February 16th and 17th. The regatta will be hosted at thirty three clubs from San Diego to Santa Barbara and all ports in between. Races will be held for sailboats, yachts, radio-controlled models, land yachts, powerboats and outrigger canoes.

Attracting 600 boats, the Midwinter is the largest regatta in North America. This regatta will feature 80 classes including PHRF, cruisers, multihull, dinghies, predict log racing, canoes, and model sailboats.

“Every sailor should get involved,” said Midwinter Chairman Bill Marting. “This is the tune-up event that kicks off the 2008 season. It’s a community event that unites sailors throughout Southern California and Arizona.

The Midwinter has grown substantially as new venues and classes have been added. New hosts include Santa Barbara Sailing Club, Channel Islands Yacht club, and the Marina del Rey Outrigger Canoe Club. New classes include Santa Cruz 50’s, open 570s, and outrigger canoes.

“We are praying for good weather,” continued Marting, “last year it rained but the races took place anyway. Rain or shine the Midwinter races will run.”

Again this year we are offering very colorful t-shirts plus the newest thing in sports, moisture- wicking long-sleeve shirts at low prices.
